About this farm

Welcome to Providence Lane Homestead! We are a small, permaculture-focused fibre farm, a working homestead that currently has resident alpacas, heritage breed sheep, horses and chickens. Our goal is to leave our corner of Alberta a little more diverse, a little richer, a little more resilient than we found it. It's a labour of love and a game of patience where progress is measured in generations. Our sheep are mostly Border Leicester or BL crosses with a few Cotswold sheep and some others in the mix for good measure. We have decided to focus on the Border Leicester owing to their docile temperaments, amazing fibre and their status as Endangered on Heritage Livestock Canada's conservation list. Our sheep fleeces are frequently sold raw, right off the sheep's back at shearing to enthusiastic hand spinners and fibre artists - sometimes even a year in advance. Our alpaca fibre is incredibly soft and luxurious, a truly premium product. We are open for tours to groups of all ages including school groups (including homeschools), hobby/artist retreats and families (considered two adults/two children) looking to get out of the city for awhile. Additional potential activities and special interests can be accommodated/explored - just ask! Rates/group information on the "Add Ons" part of this listing will give you an idea of costs for a group of up to five people - for larger groups or for more details, we're happy to answer any questions, just drop us a line. Thank you so much for opening your charming form to us . We learned a lot about the variety of sheep Tara is trying to reintroduce. The care and devotion of Tara and her Family towards their animals was very obvious. We learned a lot about new farming methods. Covid restrictions, in place, allowed us to participate in this event feeling safe. A beautiful farm setting and I was so excited to see the rich paddocks that the animals were living in. A pleasure to spend a day away from the struggles of this past 6 months. Regards Marilyn Hayden

Thanks for allowing us to tour your farm. The grandkids loved the sheep, alpacas, horses, chickens, and cat. It is great to get city kids out to see the countryside.

It was a fun experience for the kids, especially as they had a chance to spend some time with the horses. The demonstration on how wool is been processed was very informative.

A beautiful homestead where love blooms everywhere. You feel the care and dedication that Tara has put into each animal and plant here and it was wonderful spending the day learning from her.

We had a fantastic time! The only thing I would change is longer scheduled visits, and the events occurring more often for everyone to experience them. But in saying that I realize it’s hard on the volunteers. We appreciate being able to visit your home, thank you!!!!
