Laurie and Chad have built an amazing farm at Backwoods! They (and all the volunteers) were very warm, welcoming and informative! It was easy to get around and see the chickens, pigs, goats, turkeys, ducks, cows and bison up close. I especially liked learning how to cook bannock on the fire using a stick! It was one of the best days of the summer! Thanks for having us all out to your home!

Had a lot of fun. Good food, got to scratch the cows and see baby chicks!

Amazing farm! We didn’t go on the Buffalo tour but did see two large ones and a baby. LOTS of chickens. Loved seeing all the animals and feeding the goats. Many different vendors to check out. Grabbed some lemonade and free candy sticks. Wish we could have stuck around for some delicious pig that was cooking. Only complaint is the washrooms didn’t have any running water.

Thank you so much for opening your ranch. It was absolutely beautiful. We enjoyed the ride out to the bison herd and learning about how they are different than raising cows. My daughter enjoyed the hands on visit to the chicken coop, petting the adorable cow, and seeing how pigs kept themselves cool in the mud. The only distraction was the carny food vendor in the middle when you enter. It deterred from the ambiance of what of farm should look like.

This was well organized. The staff was great and they answered every question I had.

Very informative about different types of animals. Would have been involved in more interactions, if possible. Adult only activities would be a suggestion.

Thank you so much! My kids loved their farm experience, especially the tractor/hayride transportation to and from the parking area. Brilliant! My daughter was enthralled with the dairy cow and the spinning wheel demonstration. We certainly made lasting memories at your ranch.

Loved it! Was able to buy some buffalo meat and some bacon. They sold various meats and chickens. There were other animals to see besides the buffalo. There were a few vendors selling stuff like honey, hand carved wooden spoons, paintings, etc. My only disappointment was the food truck ran out of lemons so couldn’t get a lemon shaker drink and it was 30 degrees outside and hot! They did have cold bottled water though. Overall it was very enjoyable!

We drove from St. Albert to go to Backwoods Buffalo Ranch on Alberta Open Farm Day and it was very much worth the trip! Laurie, her family, the volunteers and on-site vendors were friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable and fun!
