About this farm

!! This event is now full !! To visit Custom Woolen Mills another time: "Custom Woolen Mills is open Monday through Friday year round - check out our website or give us a call to learn how you can visit us outside of Alberta Open Farm Days, www.customwoolenmills.com" Custom Woolen Mills is a small, family-owned and operated woolen mill. Using sheep's wool purchased from local farmers and turn-of-the-century industrial revolution machinery, we produce carded wool, yarns, machine-knit socks, 100% wool fill bedding, and hand-knit garments. Join us on August 15 for a tour through the mill and learn how wool from the farm becomes clothing. Tour the mill and dye plant gardens, and take a look through our little yarn shop! We're practicing COVID 19 safe business practices, so please be prepared to wait your turn for viewing indoor areas based on occupancy numbers.

A very interesting farm operation and business. Very friendly and helpful people. However, it was a Saturday, so the machinery was not in operation, so I will need to return on a weekday to see that.

What a great experience! Kagan, our tour guide, took us through an amazing journey from raw wool to colourful socks. The equipment, the newest piece was 50 years old the oldest is well over 100 years old, was beautiful and well cared for. The wool was showed in several stages of processing to be finally transformed into products that were available for sale. The store was filled full of every colour of every type of yarn they made, plus kits and finished goods. Thank you for opening your farm to us, we had a blast.

Friendly knowledgeable owners. Opened for the group at 9:00 am even though they understood that they were to open at 10:00. I would have liked to see the whole operation working but they only operate on weekdays. She did explain the history and operated the spinning mule for us. There were explanatory placards at the various equipment that was helpful and interesting, well-written and easily understood. My husband was mostly interested in the antique International pick-up and thoroughly enjoyed his chat with the owner.
