About this farm
Jackson Homesteaders is one of the oldest, still operating farms in Alberta. Thomas Jackson arrived in 1881 and built his sod house on this very quarter section in 1883. Now, 140 years later, Colin Jackson and his wife Laura Newstead still have that pioneering spirit. We endeavour to grow our crops in an environmentally responsible manner and care for our livestock with integrity and respect. We are pretty passionate about farming and are excited to show you how we grow your food. We are looking forward to seeing you this summer! *****PLEASE FEEL FREE TO DROP IN TO OUR FARM DURING OPEN FARM DAYS WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT. WE ARE OPEN SATURDAY AND SUNDAY FROM 10-4:30***** At Jackson Homesteaders Farms Ltd you can expect to enjoy: – farm tour (approximately 30 mins), where you can see and learn about the different crops we grow and the machinery we use to grow them (free!) – pony adventures (free!) – come brush a pony and play a game or two with them – visits with livestock (see the horses, friendly Dexter cows, and donkeys!) – interact with the world’s most awesome flock of chickens – have a look at our community garden – enjoy the beauty of the farm site

Farm rules
1. No smoking or alcohol on farm site 2. No pets (unless they are service animals and are leashed) 3. Please do not enter corrals with livestock unless invited to do so by hosts Portable bathrooms available on site.

The host are nice and very friendly. They provides lot of activities for free in the farm open day. The atmosphere is warm. My toddler girl is very enjoy with the animals. We have a wonderful day. Thank you very much.

Everything was excellent from start to finish. The farm was laid out well with great signage so it was easy to find all the activities. There were plenty of people there to ask if you had questions and were great at helping my kids interact with all the animals. Having porta potties, hand washing stations, and a hot dog lunch were very pleasant surprises. We stayed for almost 4 hours and it was a day we'll spent.

Our day at the Jackson Homestead was great. There were lots of greeters and hosts to answer all of your questions. Even tho’ we had no kids with us, we enjoyed some of the “quizzes” and definitely learned some new things. There was lots to do there for families.

This was such an amazing and intimate day, everyone was so friendly and were bringing out animals continually to interact with. The man playing the fiddle or violin and the lady with the drum were great! Very organized and they told you make yourself at home. It was so peaceful, and worth dealing with the insane heat.
