Range Road Garden Farms
About this farm
Tour dates: (Sun) July 17, (Sat) August 20th We are not your typical farmers. Without 100's of acres of land, not even 10 acres. We can grow 1000's of plants in just 2300 sq ft. Can you envision fresh strawberries in the middle of an Alberta winter, never mind growing without soil? Racks of berries, not rows. Benches of beautiful, fragrant herbs? Walls of basil, etc growing in long troughs, 10 ft high? Tiny bedding plants developing roots in big pans of water? That's us, urban farmers practicing Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) in the middle of the Nisku industrial park. Not the place you'd ever expect to find a tomato, a basil plant, or field fresh strawberry, never mind 20 ft tall beer hops. Simply put, what that means, is we grow inside, under lights, hydroponically (without soil), controlling nutrients, water, temperature, and heating/cooling. We grow without pesticides, with minimal water. We have incorporated a variety of growing equipment, tailoring each to the plants we are growing. You'll learn all about Bato buckets, Deep Water Culture (DWC), Nutrient Film Technology (NFT), and ZIP Grow. We are DIY so we are developing our processes and our systems. With a CEA farm, we produce crops without worrying about what happening outside the walls. While planning your Tour be sure to check out other the farms in the area: Rig Hand Distillery Beau Bella Winery Sunnyhill Alpacas/Twisted Sisters Mill Old Station Honey and Mead Northernhawk Hops Garden

Hello, I'm Laura S.
I grew up a farmer's daughter, with pigs, chickens, hayfields, a massive garden, potatoes, and acres of land. Pretty much a typical small farm in Nova Scotia. So coming…
