About this farm

The Spruce Grove Grain Elevator is Open from May - August. Tours can be booked from Tuesday - Saturday between 9 am - 3 pm. We are open for Alberta Open Farm Days August 14, 2021 from 11 am- 3 pm. To request a specific time slot please contact us at 780-960-4600 or at elevatorsprucegroveagsociety@gmail.com Tours are by donation. Elevator tours vary between 20-30 minutes. In 1995, Spruce Grove’s only remaining Grain Elevator was closing and scheduled for demolition. The Spruce Grove Agricultural Society purchased the Grain Elevator from the Alberta Wheat Pool for $1.00 and the surrounding land from CN Rail for $35,000. This Grain Elevator, built in 1958, after fire had burned the previous one, has uniquely been maintained in working condition. It is the last remaining wooden elevator west of Edmonton on Highway 16A. It quietly overlooks the hustle and bustle of a community that has vastly expanded beyond the imagination of Spruce Grove’s founders. On August 29, 2020 the Elevator was designated by the Province of Alberta as a Historical Site, worthy of preserving into the future.

All the volunteers did a good job to tell us a lot about the history of the Elevator. Learn a lot.

My son and I had a great visit at the elevator and farmer’s market. We learned so much about the history of grain elevators and we loved the guided tour. Thank you so much for organizing this. Shout out to the young man who created the self-guided tour booklet-it was wonderfully put together
